Michelin-starred chefs will help to raise funds to save the lives of malnourished children by taking part in World Food Day this autumn
Prominent supporters include Raymond Blanc, chef patron of Oxford’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, and Marcus Wareing of the Berkeley in London.
World Food Day, which will take place on 16 October 2012, is organised by global humanitarian organisation Action Against Hunger. The charity aims to provide communities with access to safe water and create sustainable solutions to hunger.
Participating restaurants will raise money by donating each time a customer orders a particular dish, or by inviting diners to add a small donation when they pay their bill.
People are being encouraged to get involved by hosting their own fundraising dinner parties and by sharing recipes, while cafes, pubs and delis are also being rallied to get behind the campaign.
The proceeds will go towards backing agricultural cooperatives, which Action Against Hunger believe are the key to feeding the world. Last year, the charity helped nearly 5 million people in more than 40 countries.
