What Kids Can Do is a great source of stories written by young people, ‘in their own words’, from all around the world. The organisation see themselves as the ‘voice and vision of the rising generation’, encouraging students to be ‘creators of knowledge’ and not simply ‘test takers’. Based in the United States, it also has its own publishing house, Next Generation Press, that prints youth-produced articles on issues that ‘deeply matter’.
‘There’s a radical, and wonderful, new idea here, that all children could and should be the inventors of all their own theories, critics of other people’s ideas, analysts of evidence and makers of their own personal marks on the world,’ says teacher, Deborah Meier.
