Our Portraits of a Shared Land series brings readers face-to-face with some of the people reshaping conservation across Africa, exploring how approaches to protecting nature can better reflect the cultures, livelihoods and lived realities of the communities connected to these landscapes.

We will explore what human-centred conservation looks like in practice – from locally led approaches and new models of collaboration to the tensions, trade-offs and challenges involved in finding ways for people and nature to thrive together.
