Petition for more positive entertainment

A petition calling for more positive and inspirational film and television media has been started by US non-profit organisation the Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment (GATE)

GATE aims to get one million signatures for the petition, which is called The Audience is Ready. The petition will then be sent to people working across the entire entertainment media industry, including actors, directors and production companies.

The Audience is Ready sets out to get transformational values including love, cooperation, compassion and sustainability featured more prominently in mainstream entertainment media.

“Hollywood doesn’t believe we exist as a market in meaningful numbers. We need to prove that we do. Our one million signatures will be seen to represent tens of millions of supporters. And that’s a significant audience,” said GATE.

Formed in 2009 and run by volunteers, GATE aims to: “Transform the world by transforming entertainment and media.” It offers knowledge and resources in the form of education and events.

As well as the petition, GATE will send a copy of the book The Cultural Creatives by Paul H. Ray and Sherry Ruth Anderson, a speech recorded by GATE members, and an invitation to meet in Los Angeles to discuss the role of the media in society and transformational entertainment.

Wendy Newman, GATE executive director, said: “The media is one of the most important influences in our culture that affects how people think and feel. Why not change the message so people can identify with and emulate positive behaviours and experiences? It is the most direct, powerful way to reach people, make a difference and create lasting change.”
