All slaughterhouses in England will have to be fitted with CCTV cameras in a bid to improve animal welfare and enforce laws against cruelty
The UK environment secretary Michael Gove is expected to announce today that all slaughterhouses in England will have to be fitted with CCTV systems to help reduce the risk of animal cruelty and boost welfare standards.
Proposals – set out in a consultation paper – will suggest that systems must be installed in every slaughterhouse in England in all areas where live animals are likely to be. Official vets will have unrestricted access to footage.
Undercover filming by the animal welfare organisation Animal Aid has uncovered clear evidence of law-breaking and cruelty against animals in slaughterhouses across the UK.
