Paris to reduce advertising displays

Paris city council is to cut advertising on its streets by 30% by 2013

The new measures will also prevent advertising within 50m of school gates, as well as restricting the size of outdoor advertising panels from 12 square metres to eight and preventing them from existing within 25m of each other.

Currently the city has around 2,300 advertising panels. While no further illuminated ads will be installed in the city, adverts could be permitted on buildings undergoing renovation, if the advertiser paid for the rest to be painted by an artist.

A French opinion poll found that more than half of people questioned would like to see less invasive advertising.
