Natalie lives in Manenberg, a gang-ridden area of Cape Town, South Africa. Unlike many young people in her area, Natalie resisted the temptations of crime and drugs and completed high school. Graduation is marked by an event that brightens up the neighbourhood every year: the senior prom. Families of students save up to be able to rent fancy cars, dresses and tuxedos. For Natalie and her classmates, the night brings a glimmer of hope to escape their bleak surroundings.
