This piece is part of our Hope 100 series, telling the stories of the people and organisations creating hope for 2020 and beyond
#23 Turning Tables
This NGO works with marginalised young people around the world, teaching them to use music and film to express themselves and be heard. As well as developing creative and technology skills, the young people are offered encouragement and space to process their trauma from past experiences, as well as to give voice to their hopes for the future. Turning Tables runs projects in Colombia, Lebanon, Jordan, Myanmar and Kenya, as well as several European countries.
#24 HipHop Caucus
Dubbed “a civil rights movement for the 21st century” by its president, Reverend Lennox Yearwood Jnr, this US-based action group uses cultural expression as a means to unite communities. It wants to engage people who might feel ignored or unrepresented by the political mainstream, and work towards solutions to society’s biggest challenges, from strengthening democracy to climate crisis resilience.
