Carlsberg has pledged to phase out its plastic ring can holders, replacing them with recyclable glue

In what the company claims is a world first in brewing, Carlsberg has announced it will replace the plastic wrapping used around six packs with a recyclable, glue-based ‘snap pack’ design.

The change will cut the plastic used in multi-packs by up to 76 per cent, Carlsberg says, and reduce plastic waste globally by more than 1,200 tonnes a year – the equivalent of 60m plastic bags.

Our wildlife is drowning in plastic. We therefore need to act now

Bo Øksnebjerg, secretary general of WWF Denmark, said: “Our wildlife is drowning in plastic – and the problem is unfortunately growing considerably. We therefore need to act now. We need less plastic to end up in nature. That is why we consider it huge progress that Carlsberg is now launching solutions that significantly reduce the amount of plastic in its packaging.”
