The Somerwick Sessions in Cornwall aims to support the local music scene by championing talented new artists and unique venues
A series of live music events in Cornwall has been launched to showcase new musical talent and a wealth of unique venues across the county.
The Somerwick Sessions are designed “to bring artists from all walks together to play to an audience who love and appreciate good music,” said Lily Somerville, who co-founded the sessions with Megan Markwick.
The pair, who together form the Falmouth-based folk duo Lily and Meg, have sought a diverse range of venues at which to hold the events. “Each session changes location, spanning Cornwall – from homes, to halls, studios, churches, art spaces, or anywhere else anyone can dream up,” said Somerville.
“It’s all about keeping great music alive and promoting Cornwall in all its exceptional, charismatic glory,” she added.
The next session takes place on 17 October at The Performance Centre in Falmouth and will feature four-piece funk-pop band Stone Roots along with alternative folk collaboration The Paper Shades. The night will also feature a special performance by Lily and Meg themselves. On 30 November, a session will take place at the Hay Studio in Trenewth, with acts to be confirmed.

The Somerwick Sessions were first established in 2012 while the founders were studying at Falmouth University and became involved in the local music scene, and culminated with a mini-festival in May 2013, curated in partnership with the band White Bicycles. After a hiatus while the duo were touring nationally, Somerville and Markwick re-launched the series in September 2014.
Tickets for the next session on 17 October are £7 and can be ordered in advance.
