The US state of Connecticut has scrapped the death penalty after years of work by campaigners
Robert Nave, Connecticut death penalty abolition coordinator, has been fighting to get the penalty dropped since 2001, with the assistance of human rights organisation Amnesty
Robert said: “I was never alone. So many Amnesty activists have stepped up to join our growing movement in Connecticut and beyond. State by state, our battle against capital punishment marches on in the US. Next stop California, a state poised to make history this fall by ending its death penalty through a referendum.
“Our struggle continues. But with each victory, we come closer to a world where human rights are respected, and executions are a thing of the past,” he said.
