Hundreds of job seekers in the Southeast of America started their job search on the right foot with free shoes from Heels.com. The online shoe retailer handed out dozens of pairs of new shoes and gift certificates to people looking for employment in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. These three states have unemployment rates well above the national average.
The shoe giveaways were not publicly announced prior to the events. Instead, they served as a pleasant surprise to hundreds of people attending job training events and job fairs.
“Being a bootstrapped startup, we know what it’s like to work through adversity and against the odds,” Heels.com spokesperson Linda McCoy said. “We wanted to do our part to help others, so we started shoe giveaways near our Charlotte, NC, headquarters back in February. Now, because of such a positive response from recipients, we’re thrilled to be able to take our giveaways to other states to help hundreds more people.’
Heels.com has collaborated with state labour departments, employment security commissions and private charities to get new shoes to those job seekers most in need. Now, Heels.com is proud to announce shoe company Baby Phat is donating hundreds of pairs of shoes to support these and future giveaways.
