Meet our media moguls: In July 2015, we ran a community share offer and invited our readers to become co-owners of Positive News

How did you first hear about Positive News?
I first heard about Positive News at environmental events I attended in the 1990s.

What is the best news story you have read?
One of the best stories I have read in Positive News is Positive Psychology: Creating a cultural shift in happiness. I identified with it because I see the happiness movement as being primarily about changing the culture of our society rather than being focused on self-help. By changing our culture to one of developing our all-round wellbeing instead of just being about getting and spending, we can not only live more contented lives, we can also save the life-support system of the planet.

What is your vision for the future of the media?
My vision for the future of the media is that it should be owned in the same way that Positive News is now owned, and with a legal requirement to devote at least 20 per cent of its coverage to positive news stories.

At least 20 per cent of news coverage should be positive

What quote inspires you the most?
One of my favourite sayings is: “It is better to light a candle than rail against the darkness”.

Why do you like Positive News?
It lights the candle referred to in that saying.

Why did you invest in Positive News?
I invested in Positive News because I regard it as a crucial antidote to the tsunami of bad news that is making people give up on doing anything about it, and also as an important contribution to changing the culture of our society.

Stan Rosenthal came up with the idea for Happy Cafes. Following guidelines from Action for Happiness, these are places where people can connect and learn about making their lives happier.
