Cycling enthusiasts are hoping for friendlier town planning, less bike theft and more protection on the roads, following a government cycling consultation
The Get Britain Cycling inquiry, which ran from January to March, saw an All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group take evidence at six sessions in Westminster. A report will follow in mid-April 2013, which will include recommendations for improvement. It is expected to cover plans for new infrastructure and funding proposals for behavioural change and driver training schemes.
Figures from cycling charity Sustrans show that only 2% of all UK journeys are made by bicycle, compared to 27% in the Netherlands and 18% in Denmark.
Inquiry sessions examined the barriers preventing more people from cycling in the UK, including road safety, urban planning and bike theft, and considered evidence from British Cycling and Sustrans.
