Number of male trainee primary school teachers increases 50%

The number of men training to be primary school teachers in England has increase by more than 50% in the past four years

The figures come from a report by the Teaching Agency, showing the number of male trainee primary teachers went from 2,476 in 2008-09 to 3,743 in 2011-12.

The number of male primary teachers has been growing at a rate five times faster than the rate of women. According to the Teaching Agency it is becoming an increasingly popular choice for male graduates, who it has been offering the chance to contact male teachers to find out more about the role.
