Transition course to teach skills for a resilient future

A new year-long course has been launched to help people become resilient to the impacts of climate change, the limits of economic growth and life without cheap fossil fuel energy

Aimed in particular at young adults, the One Year in Transition course has been launched by the Transition Network, a charity facilitating the Transition Towns movement. Organisers describe it as a self-directed learning programme to prepare participants to support themselves and their communities in an uncertain global future.

The programme will consist of a four-month placement at a Transition initiative such as a local food growing project as well as a six-week skills-based placement. Participants will choose a mentor and can learn anything from documentary film production to cheese making.

Training will also be given in areas such as group-facilitation and conflict resolution. Finally, participants will use all of what they learn to create their own community project.

One Year in Transition, which can be taken either full-time or part-time, starts in October 2012 and will conclude in July 2013. The course fee is £1,000.
