Sunrise festival claims green and family-friendly award

Green Parent magazine chooses Sunrise as Best Green Festival

For the second year running, Sunrise festival has been awarded the Green Parent magazine Best Green Festival award for its commitment to sustainability and providing a family-friendly atmosphere.

“This pioneering green festival has sustainability right at its very core,” said Green Parent magazine. Sunrise is powered by 100% renewable energy from a mix of solar, wind and bio-diesel using recycled vegetable oil. 80% of its food and drink comes from organic sources and it is the first major UK festival to have a disposable nappy recycling programme.

This year there is an expanded kids area with a fairground and forest school, a toddlers area and a space for teenagers that includes a skate ramp. In keeping with its sustainable ethos, the festival also runs workshops for children on basket weaving, homegrown food and eco-friendly living.

“We are delighted to win this award for the second year, as we work hard at Sunrise to make sure the kids are having as good time as the adults,” said festival organiser Katherine Ritchie. “They are essential to the vibe of the festival, and enhance the light-hearted and relaxed atmosphere that makes Sunrise unique.”

The festival takes place 21-24 June at the organic Gilcombe Farm in Somerset. Tickets are on sale now and are £255 for families of two adults and two children.
