Table salt alternative wins food awards

Innovative seaweed and salt product wins Best 2011 Organic Product, while manufacturer claims sustainability awards

The Mineral Salt, a unique ‘half and half’ combination of organic seaweed and sea salt has been chosen as Best 2011 Organic Product by readers of Healthy Living magazine.

The seaweed in the product is sustainably harvested in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, while the Soil Association certified sea salt comes from the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, England.

“No other whole food has such a complete balance of minerals, trace elements and all the other micronutrients,” said Simon Ranger, founder of Seagreens, which manufactures The Mineral Salt.

Other awards that the product has gained include: complimentary and alternative medicine magazine CAM’s Best New Product award; highly commended in the Free From Food Awards in London, a 2010 Business Award for Marine Enterprise, 2011 European Product Differentiation Excellence Award in Weight Management and the 2011 Award for Excellence in Environmental Sustainability.

Ranger established the Seaweed Health Foundation this year to further independent research and education on the health benefits of human food quality seaweed harvested and produced in the British Isles.
