Earlier this year, Canal Solidario and OneWorld Spain, both pioneering organizations in the use of the Internet decided to join forces and create Canal Solidario OneWorld.
Canal Solidario is a Madrid-based organization created by the Chandra foundation. Operating since 1999 as a digital communications medium, it specialised in social and solidarity-related issues. OneWorld Spain was set up by the Barcelona-based Un Sol Mon Foundation in order to increase the visibility of its 142 organizations affiliated with the international One-World network, which now has more than 1,500 member groups. The Canal Solidario OneWorld team is based in Madrid and Barcelona and their new combined website is inspired by the conviction that communication between social organizations is a necessary tool for social change. The website, in both Spanish and Catalan, contains information on such things as third-world development, human rights, news on social organizations, a directory of more than 2,100 NGOs, on-line interviews, fair trade and a Social Journalists section targeting communication professionals.
