They have a string of anniversary events and festivities including a revival of their original Christmas Show, A Night Before Christmas, which will open in December, a celebrity cookbook and an album of original Chicken Shack songs recorded by celebrity supporters of the company including Sir Cliff Richard, Emma Bunton and Gabrielle.

Currently 800 members strong, Chicken Shed was formed in 1974 when musician and composer Jo Collins met teacher and director, Mary Ward. Their mutual interests and a fundamental belief in people led to the creation of a theatre company for the whole cross section of the community, intended to harness and enhance the creativity of everyone involved. Outgrowing the eponymous shed, it transferred to a succession of church halls until the mid 1980s when Dame Judi Dench and her late husband Michael Williams enabled Chicken Shed to find a permanent home with the help of Lord and Lady Rayne, their friends and colleagues. In December 1994 The Chicken Shed Theatre in Southgate opened its doors to a sell-out production of The Night Before Christmas’.

Thousands of people, young and old, have been involved over the last 30 years and there are currently over 2,000 people on the Chicken Shed waiting list.
